Story of My Life

Just some of my favorites!!!
Bridge to Terabithia - Katherine Paterson

Jesse and new friend, Leslie, create the world of Terabithia to help escape their real world struggles. Terabithia strengthens their friendship and creativity while also helping Jesse to become more confident in his identity. When Jesse's world comes crashing down, he brings his sister to their world to continue the fantasy. I would use this book to identify key details and recreate Terabithia.

The Rainbow Fish - Marcus Pfister, J. Alison James

The Rainbow Fish is very beautiful and wants to keep all of his scales to himself, but after declining over and over again to share his scales he comes to the realization that his scales should be shared with all his friends so everyone can experience the beauty. This book is a great way to start a discussion about sharing in the classroom and could be used to talk about and identify character traits.

SPOILER ALERT!
The Giving Tree - Shel Silverstein

The tree loves the boy and will do anything (and GIVE anything) to make him happy. But what happens when there is nothing left to give? After giving all she has, the only thing the tree has to offer is her stump to use as a seat. In the end, both the tree and the boy are content with being in each others presence.  I would use this book to talk about sharing with friends and loved ones!

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - Laura Joffe Numeroff, Felicia Bond

You give a mouse a cookie and what does he want?? Everything! This story is about all the things a mouse could possibly want if you were to give him a cookie. First a cookie, then milk! I would use this book to explore sequencing or even cause and effect!
